The book of Galatians is sometimes referred to as “the charter of Christian liberty.” In it, Paul fights tooth and nail for the doctrine of justification by faith alone in Christ alone. – Ligonier Ministries.

Paul is not messing around.

He opens up the letter with what seems to be a warm greeting, which it is, but then BAM…verse 6, right after his “Hellos” is like a hammer dropping.

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

He goes on in chapter 3 to ask them:

The Galatians were believing false teachings. It made them question everything they had already been taught and witnessed. Paul rebukes them seriously because it is a very serious matter.

We need to take these things seriously too.

The simple takeaway (of many) you could receive from this book is DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYONE WHO CLAIMS TO BE PREACHING TRUTH.

There are SO many false teachers today that have perverted the gospel to say and mean things it never did or would. They are masters at twisting Scripture, using eisegesis and narcigesis, and making the gospel a sugar-coated, cozy blanket to comfort our wretched selves – instead of treating the Gospel like the sword that it is!

Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

It wasn’t until I watched “AMERICAN GOSPEL” that my journey to coming out of bad theology began. Growing up in the church and all the way into adulthood, I was severely deceived by false teachings.

We have to stick TO the Gospel, no matter who is preaching it or teaching it to us. It doesn’t matter how many degrees they have, how charismatic they are, how pretty they appear, how wealthy they are, how blessed they seem, how humble they act, or how much they can quote History and Bible – if it does not line up with Biblical sound doctrine…RUN! Yes, even if the person is your own family…RUN!

False teachers are wolves in sheep clothing and they will devour you.

Hold everything someone says up to Scripture. Do not just believe them because they’re popular or sound theologically wise. I encourage everyone who hasn’t watched AMERICAN GOSPEL to do it quickly. It is what God personally used in my life to open my eyes to the truth and since then I have grown immensely – not just in knowledge but in bearing good fruit. The true Gospel has changed me!

And like Paul says at the end of Galatians: “May I never boast except in the cross of Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” 6:14

Again, Galatians has so much to it. There are many things to take and glean from its book. Read it and read it again. I personally use the John MacArthur study bible to help with commentary. I highly recommend it. 🙂 SOLI DEO GLORIA.
