Hello Beautiful Friends!
I am really excited to share this with you. My heart has been so grieved over Halloween and after lots of digging into God’s Word, watching videos on YouTube about Christians celebrating Halloween, and even engaging in a short public conversation with a practicing witch on my Instagram – I am very much at peace with the firm decision that our family will be abstaining from Halloween. But P.S. The YouTube Videos and the conversation with the Wiccan was just added validation. The Word of God was enough alone to convict and lead my heart in this direction. 🙂
So, instead of Halloween, will we be doing anything?
YES!
I decided to take the opportunity and teach my children a little more about spiritual warfare.
So instead of Halloween, we will be gathering together as a family, singing praises to the Lord, reading specific Scriptures together, and praying for different things. We’re going to have some comfort food and get in cozy clothes with some blankets and meet in our den to do this.
Begin with Prayer.
I’m really trying to work on going to pray before I do much of anything these days. Left to my own devices, I can easily become distracted and even prideful. So best to pray and not only ask the Holy Spirit for help but to remember who is really in charge and who isn’t. lol. That answer would be GOD and not me. 😉
Song 1: God You’re So Good
Explain to the group/your family why you’re no longer participating in anything that has to do with evil, what God thinks of the darkness/wickedness, and why it’s important to stand firm in the Truth of the Word of God.
Make sure to have your Bibles and actually look up the verses with your children. Be ready and open to discussion. Explain what the verses mean and how they apply to Halloween. The goal is for our children to really understand why we’re abstaining.
“Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” – Ephesians 5:11
“Abstain from every form of evil.” – 2 Thessalonians 5:22
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” – Isaiah 5:20
PRAYER: We’re going to specifically pray for those who are celebrating Halloween in deception, not understanding that they are glorifying the very things God hates in Scripture: witchcraft, demonic spirits, glorification of death and sin.
SONG 2: AS THE DEER
Explain to your children/group how we have a very real enemy in satan. A deer doesn’t pant for water unless he’s been being chased. The devil wants to deceive us and destroy us. The ages of your children will depend on how in depth you want to explain this. 🙂 Let’s be mindful of our littles.
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8
“He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” – John 8:44
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” – Ephesians 6:11-16
PRAYER: Here is where we’re going to pray against the spiritual darkness BUT Mamas, we are not going to rebuke satan. This prayer needs to be to the Father for the LORD to protect those in danger of demonic influences, those who are being hurt because of evil doers, and those in wickedness who need to repent. But again, this is NOT a rebuking of satan or demonic powers. We should not be teaching our children or practicing ourselves to directly try to command satan and his demons to do anything. Just bring your request to God the Father.
Explain what separates us from the world. As Christians we are the light in the darkness. We expose the darkness and the deceptions of the evil one through the love and grace – This is done by the power of God through Jesus Christ. As Christians we are to be the light and not go back into the darkness.
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12
“For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” – Ephesians 5:8
“For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 4:6
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” – 1 John 1:7
PRAYER: Here were going to spend time thank God for His Holiness and Goodness! What are some thankful you and your family have? Lets bring glory to the Father and praise Him for His GREAT GREAT love.
Go around and say a praise: It could be the beautiful weather, an answered or unanswered prayer, etc.
Here is where we are going to praise God and talk about how through Jesus death and sin were destroyed forever! We do not have to be afraid of the evil one for JESUS HAS THE VICTORY.This part is very important if not the most important – lets remind our littles that we have no reason to fear satan when we are in Christ.
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” – Galatians 2:20
PRAYER: Here is where we are going to thank the Father for JESUS!!! We deserved the wrath but instead Jesus took our punishment. Let’s worship God in prayer and thank Him for His Son.
I’d love to know if you participate in this and what changes you made to better fit your family.

we do not celebrate it. it glorifies everything God hates, every Christian should have no part in this. I’ve heard so many excuses of “oh it’s just fun for the kids” etc..there’s no excuse for sin. We are not supposed to look like the world yet most churches throw a “harvest” party..why compromise? Just because people switch out a word in the title doesn’t mean it doesn’t glorify evil. Stay away from evil. As a family, October 31st is just like any other day and if people ask us about Halloween, we use it as an opportunity to minister to them.
